Experience rating worksheet

Your experience rating worksheet is the document your state's rating bureau issues showing the actual calculation behind your EMR (experience modification rate). It lists your payroll by class code, your claims for the three policy years in your rating window, and the math that turns those numbers into your mod. Your agent or carrier has a copy; if you don't, asking them for your current experience rating worksheet is the request that gets you one. The worksheet is the single most useful document for checking whether your mod is accurate, because it shows every input the bureau used rather than just the final number. Comparing it line by line against your loss runs and your actual payroll records is how errors get found: a claim that should have closed, a class code that doesn't match your operations, a reserve that's stale. NCCI issues the worksheet in most states; a handful of states run their own independent rating bureau and issue their own version, though the structure is similar. Nothing on the worksheet fixes itself. The bureau calculates from what the carrier reports, and the carrier reports from what's in its file, so an error on the worksheet usually started somewhere further upstream and has to be corrected at the source.

Is your mod right?
