Unit statistical report

The unit statistical report, often called the unit stat, is the filing your carrier submits to the rating bureau reporting your payroll and claims for a policy period. It's the underlying data feed that your experience rating worksheet and your EMR (experience modification rate) are built from. The unit stat's schedule matters most for changes that aren't errors. A reserve that drops, or a claim that closes for less, after the valuation date isn't a correction to the reported data; it shows up on the next unit stat report and the ratings built from it. That's why raising a stale reserve early in your policy year, right after a rating is calculated, gives it the most chance to count on the next report. A reporting error is different. When the carrier files a correction for data it reported wrong, such as payroll, a class code, a claim that isn't yours or a duplicate claim, the correction produces a revised mod in NCCI states. Your agent or carrier handles the actual filing; as a contractor, what matters is knowing which kind of fix you're asking for. If you're ever unsure why a change hasn't shown up in your rating yet, asking whether it was filed as a correction or will come through on the next unit stat report is usually the right question to ask your agent.

Is your mod right?
